Opening of Service-Center Nord at New Location: 25-Year Success Story in Berlin
Mannheim, February 11, 2025
The opening of the MWM Service-Center Nord in Berlin at the turn of the millennium marked the beginning of an eventful history. Under the management of Torsten Werda, the location was first used as a service base for construction machinery. Following the successful launch, additional fields of activity and markets developed over the years. Until 2005, the company sold and serviced marine engines, supplied drives for pumps and track-laying machines, and serviced the first cogeneration power plants in Germany and Lithuania.

Focus on Gas Engine Business, Intensive Regional Support
The Service-Center Nord experienced its breakthrough with the biogas boom that emerged in Germany starting from 2006 and the extremely successful MWM TCG 2016 gas engine. The high demand for biogas plants as well as the increased sales of natural gas engines made it necessary to focus on the gas engine business. The experienced team in Berlin also took over the maintenance and servicing of gas engines in Poland. The following years saw even more intensive regional support, a growing range of services, and the introduction of the X-Change program, which delivers reconditioned exchange units as an alternative to the major overhaul (E70).

New Building: Optimized for the Overhaul of Gas Engines
During this time, a number of important initiatives relating to the environment, health, and safety (EHS) were also rolled out, e.g. the development and continuous improvement of special equipment and tools. In view of the increased demand for exchange generator sets and services, the decision was finally made in 2023 to set up a new building for the Berlin location.

The relocation to the new building took place in January 2025. The new building in the west of Berlin is well connected to the infrastructure and boasts a large, modern workshop that has been adapted to the specific requirements for overhauling gas engines.

Opening Ceremony of Service-Center Nord, Farewell to Retiring Manager Torsten Werda
25 years after operations had first started in Berlin, the new Service-Center Nord was opened on January 16, 2025. Service staff from various parts of Europe met in Berlin to share experiences and celebrate the opening of this remarkable building.

Besides a review of the eventful history of the Berlin location, the event also served as a platform for celebrating the retirement of long-time manager Torsten Werda. Werda’s leadership skills, commitment, and knowledge have greatly contributed to the “Berlin success story” and the ongoing development of the Service Center. Together with the assembled service team, Werda presented a review of the development and achievements of the MWM Service-Center Nord. After 25 years of dedication to the Berlin Service Center, Werda retired with the best wishes of all present. Addressing the employees, Werda said: “I wish you all the best, both professionally and privately, much success for the start of operations at the new MWM Service-Center Nord, lots of motivation, and full order books.”
